Enrolment in the Rick Hansen SCI Registry dramatically increased in 2010. As of December 7, 552 participants had consented to have their SCI-related data captured by the Registry in the past year. Prior to that, the Registry had been growing by about 200 participants per year. The most dramatic increases were in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario. At year end, the total number of registered participants was 1533. "Clearly, the Registry is gaining traction across Canada," says Catherine McGuinness, Managing Director. "Researchers and clinicians across Canada, along with Canadians with SCI and their families, are getting the message about the Registry's potential in terms of accelerating treatments and a cure for SCI. It will be interesting to see what 2011 brings, particularly given that we will be launching our new web-based data collection tool that will make participation that much more seamless and integrated." The chart below provides a year-by-year view of Registry enrolment.
