ICORD and its International Spinal Cord Injury Research Centre
ICORD (International Collaboration on Repair Discovery) represents a new research initiative focused on discovering solutions to promote full functional recovery and improved quality of life after spinal cord injury. Conceived through a founding partnership between the Rick Hansen Institute, the University of British Columbia and the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, and directed by BC Leadership Chair, Dr. John Steeves, ICORD is a unique, interdisciplinary collaboration that integrates discovery research with clinical, rehabilitation, and community-based research and practices.  More about ICORD

Rick Hansen Foundation
The Rick Hansen Foundation is a registered charitable organization that works to create more accessible and inclusive communities for people with a spinal cord injury, and supports the search for a cure. Through Rick's leadership, the Foundation has generated over $200 million for spinal cord injury related programs and initiatives.

The Spinal Cord Injury Solutions Network is a Canada-wide collaboration of people with spinal cord injuries (SCI), researchers and service providers, along with their respective organizations, all committed to addressing priority needs and generating solutions for Canadians with SCI.

University of Toronto - Public Health Sciences
Major developments in public health are underway at the University of Toronto. On July 1, 1997 a new "Department of Public Health Sciences" was created by a merger of the Department of Behavioural Science and the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics. The creation of this new Department will strengthen the University's programs in public health, community health and population health . Ten new tenure-stream faculty positions will be added to the Department: six funded by the University's Academic's Priorities Fund and four by the Faculty of Medicine. Our vision is to be a world class, top tier school of public health, with academic excellence and community impact locally, nationally and internationally.

American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA)
The mission of ASIA is: (a) to promote and establish standards of excellence for all aspects of health care of individuals with spinal cord injury from onset throughout life. (b) to educate members, other healthcare professionals, patients and their families as well as the public on all aspects of spinal cord injury and its consequences in order to prevent injury, improve care, increase availability of services and maximize the injured individual's potential for full participation in all areas of community life. (c) to foster research which aims at preventing spinal cord injury, improving care, reducing consequent disability, and finding a cure for both acute and chronic SCI. (d) to facilitate communication between members and other physicians, allied health care professionals, researchers and consumers.

International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) 
The Objective of ISCoS:  (1) Serve as an international impartial, non-political and non-profit making association whose purpose is to study all problems relating to traumatic and non-traumatic lesions of the spinal cord. This includes causes, prevention, basic and clinical research, medical and surgical management, clinical practice, education, rehabilitation and social reintegration. This society will function in close collaboration with other national and international bodies, thereby encouraging the most efficient use of available resources. (2) Provide a scientific exchange among its members and others by collecting and disseminating information through publications, correspondence, exhibits, regional and international seminars, symposia, conferences and otherwise. (3) Advise, encourage, promote and when requested, assist in efforts to co-ordinate or guide research, development and evaluation activities related to spinal cord lesions throughout the world. (4) Advise, encourage, guide and support the efforts of those responsible for the care of patients involved and when requested, correlate these activities throughout the world. (5) Advise, encourage, guide and support the efforts of those responsible for the education and training of medical professionals and professionals allied to medicine and when requested, correlate these activities throughout the world.

The International Spinal Cord Society shall work in collaboration with national and international bodies, thereby encouraging the most efficient use of available resources worldwide.

The Association of Public Health Epidemiologists in Ontario
The Association of Public Health Epidemiologists in Ontario is an organization of approximately 30 members who practice epidemiology in Ontario's public health units. APHEO's first meeting was in 1991. In 1997, the association was expanded to include affiliates - those who have an interest in epidemiology and who may work for other health agencies. The group meets quarterly to discuss matters related to public health epidemiology.
